The Farmstand Cat

For those of you who have been coming to the Farmstand since we opened, you may have crossed paths with the Farmstand Cat. His name was Big Guy.

Big Guy’s story began just down Hwy 14. After his original owner passed away, he found himself living life as an outside cat. Eventually, he made a new home at the funeral home next door, where he spent countless years greeting people who were going through some of life’s most difficult moments. In his own quiet way, Big Guy offered comfort, love, and companionship to strangers who needed it most.

In the fall of 2024, we built the Farmstand as a place to share our flowers and produce with the community. That is when our paths first crossed with Big Guy. During construction, he simply showed up. He would spend the day hanging around with us until a car pulled into the funeral home parking lot. Then, without fail, he would scurry back over to greet the visitors as they stepped out of their cars.

Before long, Big Guy had made new friends. We made sure he always had a bowl of kibble and fresh water waiting for him.

That following February, we learned more of his story. He had no true home of his own, but he gave endless love to everyone he met. Then one night, he curled up on our porch, and that was that. Big Guy had found his place.

He came inside our home and never had to worry again about food, safety, or warmth. 

He found love, and he took up retirement like a champ. His days were spent napping on the couch, soaking up the comfort of home, or waiting patiently for his dad to come home and sit in the chair.

As time went on, Big Guy began to show his age. His steps became slower, his body more fragile, but the love he gave never faded.

Big Guy passed away at 4:50 a.m. on July 7, 2026, in the arms of his family, at home.

Big Guy’s message was clear. Sometimes the ones who need love most are the ones who give it most freely.
